Joseph T. McCoog Jr.

Joseph T. McCoog Jr., age 67, of Catawissa, formerly of Mahanoy City, died Friday morning at his home.  Born at the former Locust Mountain Hospital he was the son of the late Joseph T. and Mary (Jenkins) McCoog Sr.  He was a graduate of Mahanoy Area High School and was the owner and operator of McCoog Construction Company of Mahanoy City prior to his retirement.  He was a member of the Citizens Fire Company # 2 and Mahanoy City EMS for 48 years and also served as a Mahanoy City Fire Department Assistant Chief.  He held social memberships with Mahanoy City American Legion Post 74, the West End Fire Company and the former Mahanoy City VFW.  He was of the Protestant faith.  Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his sister Mary Ruth Danisavich and a granddaughter Poppy McCoog.  Survivors include his wife of 36 years the former Sheila Shulski, a son Ian with whom he resided, 2 sisters Debbie Northey and her husband Keith and Diane McCoog all of Mahanoy City, a brother David of Shenandoah, 2 grandsons Rayne and Ryter McCoog as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.  Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral on Wednesday morning at 11 AM from David D. Jarrett Funeral Home of Mahanoy City.  The Rev. Dr. John H. Reid will officiate.  Interment will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery in Mahanoy Township.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 PM and again on Wednesday morning beginning at 10 AM until time of services.  In lieu of flowers contributions in his name to the Citizens Fire company # 2, (212 W.
