Mr. George E. Eckrode, age 80, of Locust Valley Barnesville, died Wednesday morning at Commonwealth Health Wilkes Barre General Hospital. Born in Mahanoy City he was the son of the late William and Agnes (Volosky) Eckrode. He was a 1956 graduate of Mahanoy Township High School and was a member of St. Peter's UCC of Locust Valley. He served during the Vietnam War with the United States Air Force in southeast Asia. He had been employed as an electrician for Bemis Corporation. Survivors include his wife the former Ruth Evans to whom he would have been married 61 years on November 15, a son David at home, 2 daughters Kelly Sopko and her husband Matthew of Barnesville, Lori Gnall and her husband Christopher of Mahanoy City, grandchildren Kaitlynn Koback, Albert Eckrode, Elisa Fenkner, Samantha Wassell and Nicholas Sopko, great grandchildren Shelby and Hadlee Wassell and Adalyn Eckrode and nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to call and visit with the family on Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM at David D. Jarrett Funeral Home of Mahanoy City. Interment will be private. Contributions in his name to St. Peters Church which will be accepted at the visitation or the charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family.
