Mr. Joseph M. Timko, age 71, of Mahanoy City and formerly of Shenandoah, died Sunday morning at his home. Born March 19, 1946 in Upper Shaft he was the son of the late George and Tessie (Gulick) Timko. He was a 1963 graduate of Shenandoah Catholic High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Force and served on Monkey Mountain in Vietnam. He was of the Roman Catholic Faith and a member of the former St. Stephen's Church in Shenandoah. He was a member of Mahanoy City American Legion Post 74, Ashland VFW Post 7654, BPOE 695 in Mahanoy City and was a life member of the William Penn Fire Company. He was an avid fan of the New York Giants and the San Francisco Giants. Joe was a well known accordion player with the former band "The Legends" of St. Clair in the 1970's and 80's. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were a son Joseph in 1992 and a brother George in 2012. Survivors include two sons Michael and his wife Holly of Mahanoy City, Christopher of Lost Creek, sister in law Shirlee Timko of Hazle Township, a niece Debbie Yanuzzi of Hazle Township and 3 grandchildren Colin, Nolan and Christopher Timko. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a religious service and military honors on Friday morning at 10 AM in St. Michael's Cemetery in Shenandoah Heights. Msgr. Ronald Bocian will officiate. Friends may call at the David D. Jarrett Funeral Home in Mahanoy City on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 PM.
