Edward J. Sanchez

Mr. Edward J. "Eddie" Sanchez Sr., age 81, of Mahanoy City, died Tuesday morning at Hometown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  Born in Mahanoy  City, he was the son of the late Michael and Katie (Zajac) Sanchez. He was a graduate of Mahanoy City High School and served with the Air Force during the Korean Conflict.  He was a member of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church, BPOE 695,  VFW and American Legion all of Mahanoy City and the Disabled American Veterans. He had been employed with the Department of Motor Vehicles in Harrisburg and last worked for and retired from Bethlehem Steel Corporation.  Preceding him in death were a son Michael, a brother Leo and a sister Laura Raddie. Survivors include his wife of 57 years the former Betty Garcia, a son Edward J. Sanchez Jr. and his wife Donna of Ringtown, a daughter Carol Metkus and her husband Jack of Spring Texas, 7 grandchildren Kristin, Michelle, Stephen, Karen, John, Katie and Elizabeth and 1 great grandson Benjamin, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass to be celebrated by the Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher on Saturday morning at 10:30 AM from Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church.  Interment with military honors will be at Sky View Memorial Park in Hometown.  Friends may call and visit with the family at the church on Saturday morning beginning at 9 AM.  David D.
