Eleanor Rooney Obituary

Eleanor Rooney, age 96, formerly of Mahanoy City, died May 15, 2021 at Schuylkill Center in Pottsville. Born in Shenandoah she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Mary (Ushella) Mazeikas. She was a graduate of Mahanoy City High School anbd attended beauty school. She had been employed in the local garment factories, Alcoa, worked as a waitress at the former Longo's Restaurant and also worked as a beautician. She was a member of St. Teresa of Calutta Church in Mahanoy City. Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her husband John in 1991, 2 sisters Evelyn Mazeikas and Violet Sengler and a brother Walter Mazaikas. She is survived by a daughter Mary Evetushick and her husband John of Tamaqua with whom she resided and a son James Rooney and his wife Melissa of Homer NY, 3 grandchildren John and Timmy Rooney and Grace Ganley and a great granddaughter Eleanor Grace Rooney and a niece Carol Phelm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated by the Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher on Thursday morning at 11 AM from St. Teresa of Calcutta Church in Mahanoy City. Interment will follow in St. Fidelis Cemetery in Mahanoy Township. Friends may call at the church on Thursday morning beginning at 9:30 AM. David D.
