Geraldine L. Scully

Geraldine L. "Gerry" Scully, age 88, of Mahanoy City, passed away Sunday morning at her home. Born in Mahanoy City she was the daughter of the Late Nicholas and Lucy (Cataldi) Mammarella Sr.. She was a 1950 graduate of Mahanoy City High School and was a member of St. Teresa of Calcutta Church in Mahanoy City. Active in her community she was the owner and operator of Gerry's Dress Shops. She was the organizer of many community events including the Easter Parades, and Mahanoy City Centennials. She was Mahanoy City Elks Lodge first Woman of the Year, Shenandoah Evening Herald Person of the Week, President of the Golden Bears Basketball Boosters Club and President of the Mahanoy City Merchants Association. Throughout her entire lifetime, Gerry displayed an unparalled quest for helping those in need. Her unending dedication to and support for both her family and Mahanoy City was only exceeded by her unwavering generosity to any and all in need. Preceding her in death in addition her parents were brothers Rev. Dominick, George and Nicholas Mammarella and a sister Emma DeAngelo. Survivors include her husband of 69 years John D. "Jack" Scully sons John "Jackie" Scully of Mahanoy City, Patrick Scully of Elizabethtown, Kathleen MacDonald and husband Jim of Jacksonville FL and Geraldine Andregic and husband Tom of Camp Hill.  Other survivors include 3 sister Theresa Kistler of Harrisburg, Virginia Martin of Mahanoy City, and Dolores Murtin of New Jersey, grandchildren Zacary, Brittney, Brooke, Laura, Patrick, Megan, Jordan, Alison, Kelly and Susie and great grandchildren Ella, Jude, Aiden, Penelope and Piper and nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated by the Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher on Saturday morning at 11 AM from St. Teresa of Calcutta Church in Mahanoy City. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Mahanoy Township. Friends may call at the church beginning at 9 AM. COVID 19 Guidelines will be strictly followed and a mask will be required.
