Harold G. O'Hazzo Obituary
Mr. Harold G. "Chick" O'Hazzo, age 90, of Mahanoy City, died Monday morning at Hazleton General Hospital. Born in Beaver Meadows he was the son of the late John & Susan (Kaschak) O'Hazzo.
He was a 1941 graduate of Hazleton High School and was a graduate of Penn State University. He also attended Bucknell, Syracuse and Fordham Universities.
He served with the Navy during both World War II and the Korean Conflict and was a gunners mate on the USS Adirondack. Mr O'Hazzo was a long time teacher, guidance counselor and athletic director for Mahanoy Area High School. He was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church and American Legion Post 74 of Mahanoy City, the Knights of Columbus, the Civil Service Police Commission, McAdoo VFW, McAdoo Fire Company and the Locust Valley Rod and Gun Club. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed sharing his catch of the day with his friends. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his wife Eleanor in 2007, a daughter Diane and a brother John. Survivors include 2 sons John R. "Richie" O'Hazzo at home, Robert "Chick" O'Hazzo of Tresckow, 2 daughters Karen Makowiec and Jeanne Ryan and her husband Gary all of Mahanoy City, one sister Dorothy Maguschak of New Coxeville, two brothers Eugene of St. Luke's Manor in Hazleton,and Raymond of Florida, a sister in law Lydia O'Hazzo of Hershey, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral on Friday morning at 10 AM from David D. Jarrett Funeral Home of Mahanoy City. Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. James Carroll at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in New Coxeville. Friends may call at the funeral home on on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 PM with Parastas at 7:30 PM and again on Friday morning from 9 AM until time of service.
