Janet E. Scherer

Janet E. Scherer, age 70, of Mahanoy City, died Tuesday morning at Penn State Hershey Medical Center surrounded by loved ones.  Born at the former Locust Mountain Hospital, she is the daughter of Joan Brady of Mahanoy City and the late John G. "Jack"  Brady.  She was a 1970 graduate of Mahanoy Area High School and received her Associate Degree in Business Administration. from the McCann School of Business.  She had been employed in that capacity by the Gilberton Coal Company, Mahanoy Area School District, Ashland Diesel and for Empire Beauty School.  She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Mahanoy City.  She was past president of the United Methodist Women, sang in the church choir and worked tirelessly at all fund raising events.  She was chairman of the Angel Tree Project that provided Christmas gifts for needy children in the Mahanoy City area.  Her greatest joys were attending all of her daughters  school activities, she was past president of the Elementary  PTO and served with  various boosters and the Mahanoy Area Alumni Association.  Her favorite place in the world was Ocean City New Jersey where she spent many summers with family and friends. In addition to her mother she is survived by her husband of 46 years Richard P. Scherer, two daughters Amy Scherer of Elizabethtown and Laurie A. Scherer of Hummelstown, a sister Joan K. Brady of Pottsville and a brother Jack Brady and his wife Theresa of Cary NC and her beloved dog Bailey.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral on Saturday morning at 11 AM from the First United Methodist Church, Fourth and Mahanoy Ave., Mahanoy City.  The Rev. Bridget Wagner will officiate.  Interment will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery in Mahanoy Township.  Friends may call at the church on Saturday morning beginning at 9 AM.  Contributions in her name to the church would be appreciated by the family and will be accepted at the visitation.  David D.
