John B. Ellis

Mr. John B. Ellis, age 80, of Frackville and formerly of Mahanoy City, passed away Friday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill in Pottsville. Born in New Boston, he was the son of the late Andrew and Elizabeth (Getz) Ellis. A life long devote catholic John was an active parishioner of St. Teresa of Calcutta Church in Mahanoy City. He graduated from Mahanoy Township High School in 1959, and served six years in the Army before starting his career at Altadis Tobacco Company in McAdoo. He was a member of American Legion Post 74 in Mahanoy City. John enjoyed hunting, golfing, and shooting darts. He also loved providing the elderly and infirmed of the area nursing homes such as Hometown Nursing home with frequent visits and rosary prayer sessions with the residents. His wife the former Mary Barnish and two brothers Andrew and Lawrence Ellis Sr. preceded John in death. His loving companion Mary Joan Cauley survives him, as well as nieces Angela Gress-Gurr of Virginia, Susan Enriquez of Nevada, and a nephew Lawrence Ellis Jr. of Virginia.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated by the Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher on Wednesday morning at 10 AM from St. Teresa of Calcutta Church in Mahanoy City. Masks are required. Interment with military honors will follow in Assumption BVM Cemetery in Mahanoy Township. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday morning beginning at 9:30 AM.
