John J. Sullivan Obituary

Mr. John J. "Puck" Sullivan, age 105, of Mahanoy City, passed away Sunday morning at Broad Mountain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Frackville.  Born in Mahanoy City he was the son of the late Michael and Mary (Brennan) Sullivan.  He was a 1926 graduate of Mahanoy City High School and owned and operated his barber shop after serving his apprenticeship at the Jackie Davidson Barber Shop.
Although a barber by trade he was also an entertainer. He was a tenor soloist and narrator with the American Legion Concert Band formerly of Mahanoy City, was a charter member of the SPBQSA barbershop harmony group, he directed and performed in shows for the Mahanoy City Rotary Club, Saint Canicus Church, Eagles and Elks Lodges and the Mahanoy Area Senior Citizens. Also talented with a pen he wrote his newspaper column "Reminiscing with Puck" for the Evening Herald and Republican-Herald for many years.  A member St. Richard's Church in Barnesville, BPOE 695 Mahanoy City and was also governor of the former Mahanoy City Moose Lodge. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his wife Elizabeth, a brother Donald,  and 3 sisters Margaret Brocker, Mae Cantwell and Anna Lawlor.
Survivors include a daughter Jeanne Kern of Mahanoy City a son John M. Sullivan of Frackville, 2 granddaughters Terri Frassinelli and her husband Mark of Pittsburgh, Nancy Polsky and her husband Greg of Furlong, PA, 3 great grandchildren Michael Frassinelli and Anna and Lily Polsky , step grandchildren Colleen Rhoades and her husband Jim, Patty Holman and her husband Fred, Dan Kern and his wife Marlyn, Chipper Kern and his wife Jennifer, Sophie Bruno Labiner and her husband Steve and Jim Bruno and his wife Lorraine.  Truly a gentlemen in every sense of the word, Puck will be remembered and missed by many.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday morning at 11 AM at St. Richard's Church in Barnesville, Interment will follow at St. Canicus Cemetery in Mahanoy Township.  Friends may call at the church on Saturday morning from 9:30 AM until time of Mass.  Contributions in Puck's name to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, the Mahanoy City Visiting Nurse Association or the Activities Department at Broad Mountain Manor.
