John J. Swearhart Sr.

Mr. John J. Swearhart Sr., age 85, of Mahanoy City, died Sunday morning at Shenandoah Senior Living Community.  Born in Shenandoah he was the son of the late Joseph & Catherine (Yankavage) Swearhart.  He attended Mahanoy City High School and was a U.S. Army veteran.  He had worked in highway and building construction having last worked for and retired from ATCO of Reading.  He was a member of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church of Mahanoy City, American Legion Post 74 also of Mahanoy City and Labor Local 1174 of Allentown.  Preceding him in death was a son Michael in 1978.  Survivors include his wife the former Rosemary Sabet, a daughter Margaret Mensick and 2 sons John J. Swearhart Jr. and his wife Susan all of Shenandoah and Johan Wagner of Germany, a sister Dorothe Schmerfeld of Tamanand grandchildren John, Scott and Lee Moses, Jill Schmale, Joseph Mensick, Darren Miller, Jack Swearhart and Heather Hrode, 7 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral on Friday at 9:30 AM from David D. Jarrett Funeral Home of Mahanoy City.  Mass of Christian Burial will  be celebrated by the Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher at 10 AM at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church.  Interment will follow at Sky View Memorial Park in Hometown.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 PM and again on Friday morning beginning at 8:30 AM.  Please visit www.jarrettfuneralhome.com for more information.
