Joseph G. Digris Obituary

Joseph G. Digris, age 85, of Mahanoy City, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Thursday morning.  Born in Mahanoy City he was the son of the late Joseph and Ann (Smulyk) Digris.
He graduated from Mahanoy City High School, served with the United States Army, was an avid sports fan. Joe was a member of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church, BPOE 695 and American Legion Post 74 all of Mahanoy City.  He worked in the grocery business for 50 years and was the owner of Digris Market in Mahanoy City. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his wife Catherine "Kitty" Digris in 1989 and a sister Irene Mizenko.  Surviving are his son James and his wife Martina of Mahanoy City, a daughter Mary Ellen wife of the late Michael Sobolewski of McAdoo, grandchildren Joel Digris and his wife Amy of Frackville, Maria Brayford and her husband Mark of Danville, Kyle Digris of Manayunk and Christopher Sobolewski of McAdoo and six great grandchildren.  Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral on Thursday morning at 11:30 AM from David D. Jarrett Funeral Home of Mahanoy City.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Robert George at 12 Noon at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Mahanoy Township. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM and again on Thursday from 10:30 AM until time of service. Contributions in Joe's name to the St. Vincent DePaul Society of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church or the ACTION Youth Group would be appreciated by the family.
