Joseph J. Markiewicz Obituary
On Wednesday, July 4th, our dad, Joseph Markiewicz completed his earthly mission and was welcomed into the ars of our heavenly Father. He was born in Mahanoy City on March 16, 1928, the 5th child of Polish immigrants Jan and Marya (Dziadzio) Markiewicz. He grew up in St. Casimir's Parish, now known as Blessed Teresa of Caclutta Parish. He graduated from Mahanoy City High School and proudly served our country as Honor Guard for the Tomb of the Unknows at Arlington National Cemetery. Upon his return home, he was employed by the A & P Grocery Store. In there he met our mother, Theresa (Moore). They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in May. Upon retirement from A & P he worked for M & T Bank.
Our dad was blessed with a sense of humor, a quick wit and a stubborn streak. He was very proud of his Polish heritage and loved current events, Boston Red Socks, Philadelphia Eagles, puzzle books, cold beer, polka music and his hometown. Most of all, he loved God, our mother and us. He is survived by his loving wife Theresa, 2 daughters Mary Modica and her husband Mike, Ann, MD, Joseph Jr. , 2 sons Joseph Jr. and his wife Colette and and Paul, grandchildren Theresa, Michael, Rosalie, James, Mary Elise, Corinne, a great granddaughter Adriana Joy, and a brother Daniel. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated by Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher on Saturday morning at 10 AM from Blessed Teresa Church in Mahanoy City.
