Joseph Taris Obituary

Mr. Joseph Taris, age 95, of Mahanoy City, died Tuesday afternoon at his home.  Born in the village of Trenton he was the son of the late Ascenti & Theodosia (Burr) Taris.  He attended Delano schools and served with the Army during WWII.  He had worked for Park Mines, also opereated an independent mine along with his brothers and also worked for many years at Bethlehem Steel.  He enjoyed watching the Phillies and Eagles.  He was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in Mahanoy City and also the DAV.  Preceding him in death were his son Wayne, a granddaughter Melissa sisters Mary Gaval, Anna Macus and Julia Osinchak, brothers John "Benny" , Metro "Doc" and Wassil.  
The last member of his family he is survived by his wife of 71 years the former Verna Tirpak,  a daughter Elaine Deneault and her husband Richard of Hazelton, a son Joseph and his wife Rosalie of Mahanoy City,  grandchildren Larry Deneault, Tanya Weber, Nikki Cavenas and Jason Taris, great grandchildren Michael Weber Jr., Isobela and Jack Cavenas, Jake and Kaia Taris and Indy Deneault, niece and nephews.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend Office of Christian Burial to be celebrated by the Rev. James Carroll on Friday morning at 10:30 AM from St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church.  Interment will follow in the parish cemetery in Mahanoy Township.  Friends may call at the church on Friday morning beginning at 9:30 AM.
