Marie D'Amico Obituary

Marie D'Amico, age 94, of Mahanoy City, died Friday at Shenandoah Senior Living Community.  Born in Mahanoy City she was the daughter of the late Ben & Concetta (Caldero) D'Amico.  She was a graduate of Mahanoy City High School class of 1938.  She began her career with Bell of PA as an operator on May 1, 1939 and became chief operator in 1945.  She left Mahanoy City and worked for the phone company in various capacities in Reading, Easton and Bloomsburg and in 1957 became chief operator in Hazelton and remained there until 1980 when she became manager of the Directory Assistance office. She was affiliated with several service clubs in Hazelton and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the Catholic Daughters of America.  Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her brothers Salvador (Sam), Joseph, Leonard and a sister Virginia Hatkevich. The last member of her immediate family she is survived by  2 nephews Leonard & Jon D'Amico, nieces Molly and Ann D'Amico and Margaret Lebo all of Harrisburg, cousins Jim & Tina Davidson of Mahanoy Cityas well as great nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral on Friday at 12:30 PM from David D. Jarrett Funeral Home of Mahanoy City.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher at 1 PM from Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church Mahanoy City.  Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Mahanoy Township.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday beginning at 11:30 AM.  Please visit www.jarrettfuneralhome.com for more information.
