Michael J. Handza Obituary
Michael J. Handza, age 59, of Mahanoy City died Friday evening at his home after a brief illness. Born at the former Locust Mountain Hospital he was the son of the late Michael and Helen (Guzick) Mikita Handza. He attended Mahanoy Area schools and worked all of his life as a waiter with restaurants including the Mt. Washington Hotel in New Hampshire, the Breakers in Palm Beach Florida, The Wigwam in Arizona and last at the Balsams in New Hampshire. He enjoyed visiting casinos and playing cards with his family and friends. Preceding him in death were his sister Helen Mikita and brother Joseph Mikita. Surviving include one brother John of Mahanoy City with whom he resided, 3 sisters Diane Maziekas and her husband Thom and Joan Zilker and her husband Paul all of Mahanoy City and Regina Olson-Lash and her husband Monty of Lavelle, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive. Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral on Tuesday morning at 11 AM from David D. Jarrett Funeral Home of Mahanoy City. The Rev. Glen Hueholt will officiate. Interment will be in Assumption BVM Cemetery in Mahanoy Township. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 9 AM until time of service.
