Theresa (Moore) Markiewicz Obituary

On August 28, 2014, our mom, Theresa Markiewicz, was welcomed into heaven and reunited with our dad, Joseph J. Markiewicz.

She was born on January 26, 1930, the sixth of nine children of William and Catherine (Wirtz) Moore.

She lived her entire life in Mahanoy City having attended St. Fidelis School and graduating from Mahanoy Area High School in 1948.  After graduation, she worked in the A&P Grocery Store and it was there that she met our dad.  They were married 55 years until his passing on July 4, 2012.

Theresa was a member of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Mahanoy City.

In her younger years, mom enjoyed being a homemaker, trying new recipes, caring for family, Bingo, Chinese auctions, crabcakes and deviled crab platters, walks with our dad and casino trips with her sister, Babe Ann.

Most recently, she enjoyed watching cowboy movies, game shows, black coffee, ice cream and visits from family.

Mom began and ended each day watching the Mass.  Through her we learned to have patience in times of suffering and acceptance of God’s will.

She is survived by her son, Paul Markiewicz and brother, Paul Moore with whom she lived; son, Joseph Markiewicz and his wife Colette; daughters, Dr. Ann Markiewicz and Mary Modica and her husband Mike; grandchildren, Theresa, Michael, Rosalie, James, Mary Elise, Corinne; great-granddaughter, Adriana; sister, Anna Demko; brother, William Moore; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Tuesday to be celebrated by the Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher, Pastor at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church, Mahanoy City. Interment will follow in Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown. Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass on Tuesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish, 614 W. Mahanoy St., Mahanoy City, PA 17948 or EWTN, 5817 Old Leeds Rd., Irondale, AL 35210-9768.
