Walter J. Knapp, age 61, of Barnesville, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning at his home.  Born at the former Locust Mountain Hospital he was the son of Vera (Keating) Knapp of Mahanoy City and the late Walter F. Knapp. He was a 1968 graduate of Mahanoy Area High School and worked as a crane operator for over 30 years with the International Union Operating Engineers.  He was a member of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church and a social member of American Legion Post 74 both of Mahanoy City.  He was an avid movie buff and was a collector of movie memorabilia.  Preceding him in death in addition to his father was a brother Gary.  Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife of 30 years the former Karen Kline, a daughter Laura Knapp and her fiancé' Andrew  Weston of Weatherly, aunts, uncles and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral on Saturday morning at 10:30 AM from David D. Jarrett Funeral Home of Mahanoy City.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher at 11 AM from Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church.  Interment will be private.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM and on Saturday from 9:30 AM until time of funeral.  Contributions in Walter's name to the Hillside SPCA  PO Box 233, Pottsville, PA  17901 would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
